La Dolce Vita
Enjoy 'the sweet life' at Spring, on Bequia, in
a comfortable one bedroom apartment, in a lovely
hillside villa overlooking Spring Bay, on the windward
side of Bequia. With picturesque ocean views looking
east to the islands of Battowia and Balliceaux,
sailboats, the occasional humpback whale, and views
of the quiet, unspoilt beach at Spring. Inland views
below and across the valley are pastoral with the
remnants of Spring Plantation and its old sugar
mill ruins, which now house a pottery and art gallery,
and a small, tidy, working farm and orchard.
Sit on the deck, enjoying the breezes and watch
the palm trees sway, or the fishermen in their row
boats setting their nets. It is so easy to relax
here.
The bedroom is quite large with a very comfortable
Queen size bed, lots of storage, a few easy chairs
and a desk and chair. The bath has hot running water
and a shower. Compact but functional, fully equipped
kitchen and living area. The bedroom and the living
area have ceiling fans but with the breeze you rarely
need them.
La Dolce Vita is a few minutes walk from Spring
beach, about 10 minutes walk to Industry beach,
and about 30 minutes walk into Port Elizabeth. No
matter where you walk you are surrounded by beauty
and lush foliage.
The road which passes through Spring Estate and
links Port Elizabeth with Industry Bay is particularly
beautiful with Bougainvillaea, Oleander and Pride
of Barbados lining the roadside.
Just beyond Spring is Industry Bay. The walk from
Spring Bay to Industry Bay is truly remarkable for
its rugged beauty. Rock outcroppings along the roadway
shows evidence of Bequias volcanic origins. Industry
gets its name from the days when sugar was taken
there and loaded onto small boats to carry it across
the coral reef onto larger, ocean going ships. At
Industry there is a picturesque beach bar run by
Ricky and Dean where food and drinks may be obtained.
It is in this area that fine snorkelling is to be
found and Ricky is always happy to act as a guide.
'La Dolce Vita' is just over a mile from Port
Elizabeth where its shops, boutiques, restaurants,
banks, etc. are located. Rental cars are available
from several sources and there are plenty of taxis
available.
Non smokers only.
The owners have 2 friendly small dogs, Koko and
Gizmo just waiting to make you feel at home.
